Since Maren means water, we decided to have a water/seahorse/octopus/sand castle/enchantment under the sea themed party. We are so very fortunate that my wonderful, fabulous, in-laws have a lake house, so the party actually was on the water!
The Invite
The plaid ruffle and seahorse were actually taken from her birthday outfit.

Pre-Party
Sea creature themed plates that my MIL found.

There's an octopus in my refrigerator!
(Maren and Greta size cakes.)

Sand Castles - these were made out of spice cake, in little mini-bundt pans. Then I drizzled them with a glaze recipie and sprinkled on yellow sanding sugar. I should have bought larger gumdrops (next time I have an octopus party I'll remember that), but these worked fine. I actually made some with different colors of sanding sugar, but they didn't turn out quite right, and the yellow ended up looking the best. The flags were actually just a label size design I made in photoshop and printed on sticky label sheets. Then I cut them out and wrapped them around toothpicks to make the flags.

Birthday Girl and Birthday Sister in their seahorse/fish birthday outfits.

A shot with actual water in the background! I had hoped we would eat outside on the water, but it was just too darned hot, for great-grandma's and babies.

Testing out the Octopus Smash Cake

Octopus cake with brown sugar sand.
Party Time
We missed Granny Nadine -but she was a big hit present-wise. Maren loves her baby doll and her counting glove.
Nona and her three Great-Granddaughters;
Octoups fountain from Pottery Barn Kids. Please note the scale of Octoups to large adult in the water. That thing is huge!

Thanks to all who came, we had a great time!
